Aikatsu8 (アイカツ８, Aikatsu Eito) is an idol unit comprised of the top eight idols as voted by fans through the Aikatsu8 Elections. The line-up of members differs between the anime and the DCD game.

History

Within the anime continuity, the Aikatsu8 Elections were co-sponsored by the headmistresses of Starlight School and Dream Academy, Orihime Mitsuishi and Tiara Yumesaki. Fans were to show support for their favorite idols and vote for them, with the top eight forming a special unit known as Aikatsu8 and go on a summer tour among five major cities in Japan.

In real life, the top eight were decided based on how often idols were selected as the player character, thus reflecting their popularity among fans of the DCD game and explaining why the line-up differs from the anime.

2020 Elections

In celebration of the Aikatsu! series' 9th anniversary and the announcement of a new project, Elections for a 2020 line-up were announced.

Fans can vote for their favorite out of the 52 main characters. The final line-up will consist of:

• 3 highest ranked idols from Aikatsu!
• 2 highest ranked idols from Aikatsu Stars!
• 2 highest ranked idols from Aikatsu Friends!
• highest ranked idol from Aikatsu on Parade! (all eligible characters from the previous three series also count towards this spot)

The chosen eight idols will collaborate with Aikatsu Planet's Hana on a new song. Voting was open from August 19, 2020 to September 6, 2020, with results throughout November 2020.

• The 2020 incarnation of Aikatsu8 is the only line-up to include members who are not from the original Aikatsu! series.
• Ichigo Hoshimiya and Yurika Tōdō are the only two idols to have been in every line-up of Aikatsu8.
  • Along with Akari Ōzora, they are the only idols to have been in every line-up voted by fans in real life.
